Sara Steffan is a public relations enthusiast and a budding professional, studying at Arizona State University’s Barrett, the Honors College, and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the Downtown Phoenix Campus.
Sara is a native of Buffalo, NY, and attended Clarence High School. She was editor-in-chief of the student newspaper her senior year as well as a columnist for two and a half years. She was also in National Honor Society and an active volunteer in her community. She also interned for a student loans company and wrote pieces for trafficking Web sites on college life, college campuses and other how-to and DIY articles. Sara earned the National Hispanic Recognition Program scholarship to attend ASU.
In Phoenix, Sara has been involved with the Barrett’s Leadership and Service team as well as ASU’s branch of National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She interned with Tempe-based marketing firm Zion & Zion in the PR department creating media lists, editing press releases, writing blog posts for clients and has initiated a social media plan for a client using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and SocialOomph. She also worked under a postdoctoral fellow in ASU’s College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Prosumer Mujeres, an advocacy group dedicated to affordable healthcare for Hispanic women in Phoenix’s Central City South neighborhood. Sara has served as an intern for the City of Phoenix Public Information office, a social media intern with USA TODAY, a freelance public relations practitioner with Atmosphere Salon, and is the president of ASU PRSSA.
She is currently an employee communications intern with Arizona Public Service, and is writing a thesis on ethical communications behavior in new media.
She plans on graduating from ASU in May of 2013 with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Journalism.
